Greetings --

You don't need to know any Win2K passwords to format the hard
drive. Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition
as part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange
the order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Stew -
1. Follow Bruce's instructions; just use the XP install CD.
2. After the XP CD boot, once you've deleted and/or formatted the W2k
partition, abort the install and start over. Then tell XP to install in
that target space (or formatted partition). That way you'll avoid the
possibility of an unexpected (non-C:) XP partition letter.
3. Get rid of the Caps Lock; it's 'shouting', and hard to read. :)

Greetings --

First of all, please unstick your CapsLock key. Posting in all
caps, as you have done, is the Usenet equivalent of shouting, and is
considered very rude. More importantly, posting in all caps makes the
post very hard to read, further reducing your chances of getting help.

Secondly, the same solution applies.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

I have tried booting the system with xp install cd and it
ignores cd-rom drive and boots up with win2k. does
anybody have password recovery software that is free and
not demo version for use on win2k to restore to
administrator settings.

Greetings --

Have you set the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD first? Did you
"Press any key to boot from CD" when prompted, during the first 3
seconds of the PC's start up process?

I'll say this just once more, for emphasis: You _don't_ need the
Win2K password to format the hard drive, nor do you need to bypass it.
(And, to be brutally frank, if you lack the basic ability to set your
PC to boor from the CD, you'll probably have a great deal of trouble
learning to use a password cracking application, most of which are
Linux-based and have little or no documentation.)
