Hi, Ok i'm the administrator on my computer and have forgotten my password. Can I remove it, where is it stored? i need this computer password protected.

yes, if you have another account with administrator privilidges on that pc
you can just change it.if its the only admin account on the pc you can still
change it but its risky and not easy.
also if the user in question has or uses encrypted files they will be
unnaccesible
unless you remember the original password.

its stored in the registry sam files and is an encrypted hash.

if you need password security then you better remeber your password
theres no point passwording things if you have a faulty memory
also theres no point in having system passwords that can be easily
circumvented

Hi Jeff, as much as I'd love to offer you some help, I'm
here for the same reason as you.

I've forgotten my password which gets me into my setup
menu. I want to delete Xp and revert to good old 98SE,
but I can't.

Any advice will be very gratefully received.

if by setup you mean ya bios
clear cmos on the motherboard by removing the motherboard battery for a few
minutes or
shorting out the clear cmos jumpers which is 3 pins usually very near to the
battery
there will be a shorting pin on 2 of them
move it to the right or left for a few mins then put it back

ceedee they are talking about the password for the admin account in XP not
the bios password
your info is only for the BIOS!!

but lee said

setup is normally the bios hence my reply
