Is there a good side to forcing log off times?

I am concerned with forcing a log off time, when the user may have
applications open.

It might help in a high security environment but a password protected
screensaver should be just as effective. I have never worked at a company
that actually forces logoff, I don't see the point. So long as you enforce a
password protected screensaver for forgetful users there is nothing
intrinsically wrong with trusted users remaining logged on all the time.
