Hi,

My PCI Express graphics card has goen back to the dealer as it
overheated to the point of death.
Whilst waiting for the exchange, I have a PCI graphics card that I want
to use. However, I only get various bluescreens. In the bios I have
changed from PEG to PCI. I have also tried using the verifier.exe in
recovery mode without any success. I cannot boot either in safe or
normal mode and do not know how to continue without a new installation
of XP which I am very loathe to do.
Any tips?

Did you uninstall the PCIX drivers, boot to
plain vanilla VGA, and run a driver cleaner program
BEFORE you pulled the card?

If not, you are probably screwed. Windows hates
it when you change video cards without going through
the above procedure.

If you can get the card back do so, and do the above.

If not, I hope you have a backup of your important stuff
as you are most certainly faced with a reinstall, and XP is
becoming infamous for rendering previously readable HD's
unreadable during that procedure.

How could I? The card blew which meant I had to pull it to even go to
recovery mode.
Thanks for the confirmation of my fears.

I know this will sound a little stupid, but
can you buy another card like the one you had,
use it to at least get changed out, and then return
it with some excuse as to why you don't want it?

I know, this is dishonest, but it'll probably bail
you out...

It is an idea, but as you say it is dishonest and I would have a
problem with that.
Thanks,

Do you have a spare HD that's large enough
to install XP on lying about?

If so, do a clean install to that leaving your current
HD(s) disconnected.

Then hook them up and try to take ownership of
the stuff on them that you need.

I do not get to safe mode as it BSODs on me beforehand.

I will go for the installation route at the weekend when I have more
time.

Mny thanks to all.
