forced logoff

Hi All

I have a customer who has a 2000 server, and some users leave there
computers running at night with apps open and go home.
This interferes with the backup and sometimes corrupts data files.

Is there a way I can have ether the server or workstation log them off and
possibly shut them down at a pre determined time.
I would like to have the server log them off closing data files.

Maybe a third party software

The server configuration is just a stand alone Windows 2000 server without
Active Directory
I know when Active Directory is loaded you can set logon and logoff times in
the user profile

You can certainly log them off or shut down their machines,
using shutdown.exe, but you might not like the result: If they
have open files then these files won't be saved. They might
even get corrupted.

I have had good experience with a batch file that monitors
the backup report. If an error gets reported (usually because
of an open file) then the report is automatically sent to the
various managers. They know what's at stake and they
waste no time in passing it on to the responsible employee
with a "Please explain" note.
