force a specified pagefile-size

systembetreuer

Hi there,

I´d like to force a winxpsp2-system with 1gig RAM and a 40gig-hd
(25gig free) to have a pagefile with 3gig of size. This is nessecary
for a special cad-viewer.

The size is set via systemoptions (min=3072, max=3072) but the pagefile
won´t get bigger than approx. 1,5gig.

Defragmentation is not an option, because the system is freshly cloned,
so there is no fragmentation.

I have tried to disable the pagefile, boot and reset to 3gig - problem
persists.

What can I do?

Thanks for help

Hi there,

I´d like to force a winxpsp2-system with 1gig RAM and a 40gig-hd
(25gig free) to have a pagefile with 3gig of size. This is nessecary
for a special cad-viewer.

I'm wondering if it's really necessary for a "Viewer", even one for CAD or
CADD. Why do you think you need a preset exact-sized pagefile?
The size is set via systemoptions (min=3072, max=3072) but the
pagefile won´t get bigger than approx. 1,5gig.

What do you mean, won't get bigger than about 1.5 Gig? If you mean it's 3
Gig but only 1.5 is getting used, that wouldn't surprise me. A pagefile is
only used when the main system RAM is nearly filled and extra space is
needed; then it rolls the unused portions out to the hard drive.
Defragmentation is not an option, because the system is freshly
cloned, so there is no fragmentation.

If it's a clone, that doesn't mean there is no fragmentation. If the
cloned-from drive was fragmented, then so is the clone. But I have to
wonder why you think defrag is even an issue? I doubt it would be.
I have tried to disable the pagefile, boot and reset to 3gig - problem
persists.

Unless you have a specific reason, it would still be better to let the
system manage the pagefile size. Either a lot of info is missing, or I have
no idea what you're trying to do here. More detail, please.

Exactly what persists?
What can I do?

Probaby the best thing would be to provide a lot more specific data as
detailed as you reasonably can make it.

Youre thinking of the page file is wrong, setting to "let system manage" is
the best practice. Also,if you need more memory, the page file isnt the place
to seek it,specially on the same hd as the OS.A 2nd hd,more ram,is the
answer,
to seek the facts, look at kb555223
