A few weeks ago I posted about Norton AntiVirus 2004 not playing nice with
the pagefile on 7 different computers in my care.

I have found the following! If any MVP, or others, could explain what is
happening, I would be extremely grateful.

If I set the pagefile to "custom" size on partition C:, say 500 meg min and
3072 meg maximum, the pagefile is sometimes on my C: drive when I boot up,
sometimes it is not! If I set the pagefile to "system managed", the pagefile
works as it is supposed to. When set at custom size, even though the sizing
utility shows the pagefile as present, it is, in fact, not there! At that
time, only a similar pagefile I have set on partition I: is supporting the
system. Instead of 1 gig total, I have only 500 meg. 500 meg is indicated as
being present on the opening screen of the sizing utility, but if you open
the utility, it clearly shows a 500 meg pagefile on partition C: ANY
partition I:

Any comments, or maybe an answer?

***MY OLD POSTS***
I have verified within the registry, that every instance of pagefile size
reflects the new size (500 meg), yet the actual pagefile size (on the hard
disk) remains at 1.5 gig. Strange indeed!

I had the same problem as you did until I disabled NAV loading of
Auto-Protect on system boot. I now have no problems with a custom pagefile.
I think you said before you tried this right. Works for me but not for you
weird isn't it. Hope you find the problem and let us know.

If you have a file on a different drive - especially if its initial size
is the greater, it appears that that one is used in preference, and the
one on C only brought into use if there is need for it. I have an
initial 50 (deliberately lower than I would advices) on my E drive,
which grows to maybe 100 or so on occasions, with max set at 800, and I
have never seen one actually appear on C (2 to 50). But if there is not
a *possibility* on C:, the system may get moody and either have no file
at all. or make an enormous one on C regardless.
