Force 800X600 resolution in XP Pro

On a Windows XP machine I want to set the default screen resoltuion to 800 x
600. Everytime I go into the settings and change it, when I restart my
computer, it goes back to 1024 x 768. Do I change that in the registry to
default the settings to 800 x 600? If so, where? I need that resolution
becausean application I am using does not work with higher resolutions. It
is not practical for me to add additional hardware or replace monitors etc. I
am hoping for a Windows setting solution
Thank you,
Alexis

I thought Windows default resolution WAS 800X600. What's your hardware,
monitor/video etc.

Neil,
Thanks you for the response. This a Windows XP "feature" that it tries to
optimize itself based on the hardware it detects. So, it overides the manual
settings of the screen resolution any time you restart the computer. Unless
you have a monitor that does not support higher resolutions. I am trying to
find a way around it. Someone suggested third party software that forces the
resolution on strart up.

Neil,
I'll put this out there for you and others that experienced the same
problem. The solution is as simple as is "stupid". The resolution setting
does NOT change if you use the default Windows Theme. Only if you use the
Classic Theme. Funny how simple things like that can get you sometimes. If
someone doesn't mind the XP default theme, should have no problem with the
resolution.
Thanks,
Alexis
