For your Info Vista Activation

Just used windows update-Vista prem 64bit- to update a NVIDIA nforce4 Serial
ATA Controller. (optional)

After a reboot and about an hour,the activation notice appeared( I have done
this before succesfully) It would not re-activate online,so I had to phone
too re-activate with a new key.

I most certainly hope I am not going to get in the habit of calling Ms
everytime I update certain drivers. Hope Ms is prepared to recieve calls....

To need reactivation after a new driver, not even a hardware change, is just
plain silly.
It shows just how bad things really are!

Funny you posted this at an opportune moment.
2 days ago on my home toy, I decided to upgrade to
a faster CPU.
On reboot I waited & waited & waited for the activation
notice to pop up.
Still hasn't appeared and my Vista Business is still activated !

Maybe I'm just lucky.

Hi catfish,

I have read your thread with interest. I have detailed in earlier threads
about what you can change as far as hardware without needing re activation.
I am not denying that you are having troubles after updating software or
hardware, but what I find strange is that you have to do a re activate.
I have done heaps of changing hardware as well as software updates for
hardware with the need to do a re activate.
As mentioned in earlier threads the only time that you should need to do a
re activate is if you change your motherboard to a totally different one.
I have read here that others have had the same problem as you and I wonder
why this is the case. You didn't state whether you had a FULL or OEM version
of Vista ( this shouldn't make any difference anyway ).

Well I did a full install 32bit and then recieved my 64bit cd which I then
full installed.
I had no problems downloading and installing all the current drivers as well
as the nforce drivers. I have a full version.
I am suspecting that because I have updated the platform drivers 3 times: 1)
original Vista platforms drivers 2) Nvidia's platform drivers and then 3)
The windows updated version, perhaps the Os is recognizing these driver
changes as a mobo/hardrive change. Particular to the Sata drivers. I also
suspect that their maybe some radical changes from the first series of
drivers to the most current.
As one who always has to try the latest drivers(for anything) I do hope that
this occurence of re-activation does not happen too regular.
Vista 64bit has not really given myself problems, till now, and I am really
enjoying the Os.
