for those who want to wait to install sp2- i just found out microsoft is coming out with an upgraded

Like so many others here i have had numerous problems installing sp2 on my
dell deminsion 8200
I just got off the phone with dell with an atapi issue i had with my cd rom
drive and Dell just told me they have had hundreds of calls from owners who
installed sp2 with a million problems.

Seems they talked to Microsoft and they told them they also have had
hundreds of phone calls. The tech told me to uninstall sp2 (which i did by
doing a system restore) and wait till MS comes out with the later version.
sp2 broke something in my sony cdrw drive and now dell is sending me a new
one because i am still on a service contract.

So if any of you haven't installed it yet maybe you should wait till MS gets
some of the bugs out and reissues it around Sept 29

Ever wonder why it's almost always Dell with the problems? How can SP2 break
anything in your drive??

Ya know Dell's getting better: does make me think of the ad on TV some years
back where the little kid is shoveling oatmeal into the DVD drive though.

Meant to say: I AM not getting Sp 2 until the next iceage or Msoft makes it
better.

not really because i spoke to a level 11 person at dell and also after he
told me this i called MS and they told me there was to be a revision in the
works so you can believe what you want to believe, i am going to wait and
see before i go and install it again

I have a Dell and had no problems. I know a few MVP's in this NG
might disagree with me, but I disable my A/V whenever I download a MS
update. Have never had a problem since I started doing this. If you
were to ask in the Outlook Express NG, the MVP's there do agree with
this.

I use McAfee and if you do, you will notice that when you get an
automatic update from them, *They* disable your A/V while the update
is downloading.

How do you disable AVG? I was looking at how you did that, but I couldn't
work it out.

With McAfee, you right click on the icon, (Mine it in the
Notification area on the taskbar), Properties>Disable. Should be
similar.

The background scanner is only disabled at the point when the definitions
files it uses are replaced. Turning off your AV solution when downloading
(especially lengthy sets of updates from MS) is pretty criminal in all but
the most desperate cases.

But according to the movie, the next ice age is "The Day After
Tomorrow".
