Footnotes

I placed my question in the "Windows XP General" group and I received a reply
syaing that I should be in a "Word newsgroup." I couldn't find such a group.
I hope "Basics" can help.

Background: I started typing a document in Microsoft Word. The document
required footnotes, so I decided to use the footnote application provided by
the Microsoft Word program.

I placed my cursor just behind the last word in the sentence that I wished
to add a footnote.

I clicked "insert" on the tool bar.

I then clicked "Reference" and clicked "Footnotes."

I then clicked "insert" to place the footnote.

The program placed the insert number behind the sentence. The cursor then
automatically dropped to the bottom of the page.

There was short line and beneath the line was the footnote number and the
cursor was blinking behind it.

I typed the footnote information and returned to the text of the document.

I continued to type text and add footnotes.

Everything worked just fine. The computer automatically numbered the
footnotes and remembered the footnote numbering sequence after the computer
was turned off and I later returned to the document..

I printed the document. The text and the footnotes printed fine. It looked
like a professional job.

Problem: I suspected that something might not be right when I highlighted a
page to move it and the footnotes would not highlight.

I knew that there was a problem when I attached my word procesing document
to an e-mail. The person receiving the attached document said that the text
of the document was fine, but the the footnotes were not included.

Question: Is there a way to make the footnotes application truly part of
the document so that I may e-mail the entire document, including footnotes?

If you are using Outlook Express to access msnews.microsoft.com:

Right click msnews.microsoft.com. This is the place that hosts these
newsgroups.
Select Open.
Enter Word in the search box.
You will get a very long list of newsgroups that cover almost any aspect of
MS Word. You then subscribe to the one(s) of your choice.
