Footnotes

I am trying to format my dissertation and the entire footnote must be on the
same page on which it was referenced. However, the notes keep moving to the
next page. I need the text to move so there will be room for the entire
note. How do I prevent the notes from continuing on the next page and force
them to stay on the same page as the reference in the text?
