Windows XP is an operating system and does not do footnotes.
What word processor do you have, WORD, WordPerfect, WORKS?
Have you looked a page setup, print preview, format, styles,
footnotes, any or all of these should have settings for the
layout (another term you should check in the application
Help file.)
