Footnotes in Table Headings Carry Over Onto Next Page (Word 2002)

We have very large tables that contain footnotes in the heading row.
These do not carry over onto the following pages and our consultants
request that they do.

Anyone know a word-around for this?

Don't even try to insert the footnote in the table heading, then. Put a
facsimile of the footnote reference mark in the heading. Then insert the
actual footnote reference in the first row (or one near the top) on each
page and format it as Hidden. The actual footnote reference can be anywhere
on the page, so long as it's in a row that will stay on that page; in fact,
somewhere near the middle might be safer if editing is not complete.
