Footnote

I had to reinstall MS Word.
Now, when pointing to a footnote reference (in the main text), the footnote
does not appear as a screen tip.
All other facilities of Footnotes appears to work.

Assuming you have ScreenTips checked on the View tab of Tools | Options,
this may be an instance of a bug seen in some versions of Word. The fix
(which you must perform once per session for each document) is to switch the
Document Map on and back off.

Many thanks for your prompt reply.
I will do what you suggest.
(As I said in my question, I had to re-install MS Word. When originally
installed a long time ago, I seem to remember that I had the same problem.
However, it got "cured" but I don't know how. Possibly, when I got an update
of MS Word.)

If you have reinstalled Word and not applied updates, that could definitely
be a factor.

Thanks again. You have been very consistent with your help.
I decided to download all the updates for Word2003. This took over two hours!
However, at first there seemed to be no change in my problem, but suddenly
(and I don't know how) the world seemed bright again.
I also had to spend another half-hour re-customizing Word.
