Footnote bug

G

GavinS

I have created a document with footnotes - however someone didn't like
the presence of the footnotes so I thought I would format the relevant
styles of the footnotes (Footnote Reference and Text) as hidden.

Works fine except for the first footnote. When I choose to not display
Hidden text all the footnotes and references are hidden - except for
the very first one in the document - which displays what looks like a
bookmark reference (1234567891011) where the footnote reference is.

Anyone know why this is?

Hi Gavin,

Word doesn't create bookmarks for footnotes, but it does create bookmarks
for entries in a table of contents.
Do you have a table of contents in your document?
Is there a footnote on a heading that is included in the table of contents?
What version of Word are you using?

Word also creates bookmarks for cross-references, so if the footnote was
referenced elsewhere, there would be a bookmark, but it would be a hidden
one, with no representation in text.
