When I purchased my present computer, it came with Windows XP which has it's
own type of fonts installed.

Now I find a few apps Like Printshop calling for certain fonts to open my
own the old files I made while using Win95, Win98 etc. How can I extract
those earlier font files from the Win95/98 CD's?

Not sure what you mean by "its own type of fonts". XP uses TrueType like
every other version of Windows. It can also utilise OpenType as well as
Type1. So could previous versions but they required Adobe's Type Manager.

Windows 95/98 came with very few fonts - I'd venture to suggest that the
fonts you seek aren't on the Windows CDs. Can you give me the names of a few
and I'll see if I can tell you from where they might have originated.

Easiest probably is to get WinZip from www.winzip.com (if you do not
already have it) and make use of its free trial period. Start - Run
the two lines
regsvr32.exe /u zipfldr.exe
and
regsvr32.exe /u cabview.dll
then install Winzip and let it associate itself with ZIP files.

It will open the Win98_69.cab file in the Win98 folder of a Win98 CD.
Look in it for the .ttf files (there are 49 of them, all together in
that cab file) highlight them and Extract to a folder from which you
then install them in Fonts, taking the 'copy to Fonts folder' option

You can put the original association back by running those two lines
without the /u
