Fonts Licensing and XP Embedded

Savant

Hi all,
Target designer contains almost 140 Font compnents (yes, I counted
'em). I have a question about distribution of the fonts with XPe
images. While looking for font licensing I found this site:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/RedistributionFAQ.mspx

This site says that we cannot distribute all font types.
I have this impression that when we buy XP Embedded Studio, the fonts
are provided (and are licensed) with it and we dont have to look for
the individual font licenses. But I haven't found a proof for my
impressions. I am sure there are ppl who have distributed XPE images.

Can we distribute the fonts found in target designer with XPE images? I
thought of asking with my license provider but they deal in pure
hardware and font thing would be complicated for them.

Can we generalise this to all the components: Can all the components
provided with XPe studio be distributed without licensing the
individual components?

Thanking in anticipation,

Hi Savant,

If those fonts were included in TD by Microsoft and not by you then you should not consider those as fonts but as part of XPe image
itself.
All that MS choose to put in this database is superset of XPP, and you are allowed to use all.
If they put Windows Media Player with WMA, WMV codec's then you can use those as well if you need them, since all that is part of
XPe default environment is available for your use as long as you have COA stickers for each device.

Slobodan

Thanx for Sloodan for the reply. This one was really helpful.

Now, it may look strange to the routine XPe developers, I am searching
a way to export the names of all the components found in my
configuration files (.SLX file).
Is there anyway we can obtain a list of components found in a
particular configuration file?

Savant,

Just to confirm what Slobodan has already suggested.
In XPeTools package you will find ConfigurationExplorer component. On that
component Settings page there is a button that will allow you to save
current configuration in to a text file just listing components included
into that configuration.
