Font previews have disappeared (been disabled ?)

I am using Office 2000 (mainly Word and Publisher) and up until about a week
ago, I was able to preview any font by double-clicking on it when I was in
the Fonts Folder in Control Panel. I could also do the same for any
downloaded but uninstalled font that I have waiting in a separate folder in
My Computer. The preview I'm referring to is the pre-generated one that shows
the Upper & Lowercase characters and the numbers / basic punctuation as well
as "The quick brown fox...". Suddenly, my ability to bring up that preview
has disappeared. What happened ? Does anybody out there know ?

Your Fonts folder may have lost its special properties. See step 3 in
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CommonFontProbs.htm to fix it.

Actually, it looks like I discovered an "interesting" side effect of having
installed too many fonts (or rather, as many as Windows 98 SE will allow).
When I went in and deleted a couple of fots that I knew were duplicates, I
was suddenly able to open font files again to see the preview. Thanks for
giving me good advive anyway.
