Font list box issue

Jeffrey Millar

I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue before. I am running
office 2000 sp3 with the latest patches and the issue only appears to be
occurring in powerpoint. The issue at hand is the font list box on the
toolbar is not properly displaying the fonts in the drop down box located on
the formatting toolbar. When powerpoint is opened and you are in a
presentation or a new presentation the default Times New Roman font is
displayed in the list box without a problem, but if you click on the down
arrow to list the various fonts it does not display them yet the fonts are
there because you can navigate through them using the down arrow key. This
does not allow you to choose a different font though. If I click on the
down arrow to display all the fonts in the list box, sometimes the font list
will appear.

Has anyone run into this issue or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks,

Jeff

Might be a video driver issue. Try updating video drivers and changing
hardware acceleration settings. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm

Also make sure you have printer drivers installed on the computer (not on a
network) and set as the default printer. (In other words, make sure a
network printer -- or an otherwise potentially unavailable printer -- isn't
your default printer.)

Thanks for the suggestions although they did not resolve the issue. I have
other machines configured very similarly and the problem doesn't occur so
I'm at a loss. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

What happens if you choose Tools, Customize; click the Options tab; Remove
the check next to "List font names in their font"?

Steve,

When I do that, which I did try but forgot to mention that :-\, it does not
correct the problem. One of the things I'm trying now is putting an image
on the pc not using the tablet OS and see if the problem still occurrs. I'm
still open to ideas though. The machine in question is a HP tc4200 and I've
noticed other quarks with the tablet OS. I have a nc6220 configured
identically with the exception that its not a tablet and not using the
tablet OS and the problem doesn't exist.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

At least it closes off another line of investigation.

Given your description, it certainly seems to point to a tablet OS oddity.

Yo, Kathy Jacobs! Front 'n Center!

You are right - it certainly does sound like a Tablet PC oddity. I didn't
know you could run Office 2000 on Windows Tablet Edition. I know that the
handwriting isn't supported. I don't know what else might happen. And,
sorry, but no, I am not going to risk my tablet to find out. :)

Why not? Tablet Giveth, I know, but doth it Taketh Awayth?

It's Windows-plus-some-stuff, isn't it?
Any ordinary software would install, I'd think. Unless it speaks Tablet, it
couldn't take advantage of the tablet's special features is all. No?

For the most part, yes it is Windows plus. But the tablets have special
video drivers that go with the ability to mouse on the screen with the pen.
I don't know how PPT reacts if those aren't totally up to date. As for why I
am not going to "risk" my tablet: Has more to do with the fact that I have
no clue at the moment where my (single) copy of PPT 2000 is at the moment.
My guess is that it is in one of the boxes in the storage area, but don't
ask which one :)

Fair enough.

Come back in two months and ask; our current student will be back in Japan and
I'll be getting ready to rebuild the tablet from scratch.

I could easily install PPT 2000 as a test.
