Font is faint grey colour?

Hi all

A colleague of mine has recently had a new laptop with
Windows/Office XP installed. As we have a particular
company font that we have to use, this has been installed
onto her laptop but, for some reason, when you use it it
appears on the screen in VERY faint grey (barely
readable) and yet prints ok.

All other fonts seem fine, it's just this one that we
have to use all the time.

We are presuming it is a Windows-based fault because it
is happening across the whole of the Office suite.

Has anybody come across this before?? Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

I work with a University. My department must use a
special font for the print work we do. I encountered
other similar issues. First the font did not look "right"
on the screen (it looked almost like a completely
different font), but it printed correctly. Then I
downloaded new drivers and all of a sudden the font
looked right on the screen but it did not print
correctly. The character map was messed up also. My
employees would try to print an "em" dash and it would
show an "en" dash. There were a lot of little things like
that. I spent several hours installing patches, Windows
updates, Office updates, etc. I'm not sure what worked
for us, but something fixed the issue because everyone is
able to use the fonts correctly.

One thing that happened to several of our PCs in my
office (11 to be exact), was a strange issue when trying
to install fonts with XP. For whatever reason, opening
the Font folder via the Control Panel and installing
fonts crashed the Control Panel. It did not matter what
font we intended to install, once the Fonts folder
crashed we could not even open the folder any more. To
date none of the 11 PCs are able to open the Fonts
folder. We found that doing a search on *.* within
\WinNT\Fonts folder showed us the contents of the folder.
I downloaded a font mangers called "MyFonts" from
www.mytools.com to help manage the font files. That
seemed to help.
