Font difficulties

A while back I did a stupid thing. I deleted all the fonts that windows uses
for display purposes. I did realize my error and replaced all the fonts;
however, there are two programs that are not working correctly. Yahoo mail,
when I address an e-mail the To:, CC: and BCC: fields are in a very small
script font. The other program is Firehand Lightning Max... here the help
windows are in a solid block style font that is totally unreadable.

I have gone through the display properties page and have checked all of the
fonts. They are all Tachoma in various sizes.

Does anyone have any idea how I can correct the above two programs so that I
can read the information?

Thanks,
Frank Lembree

You may want to check for the following other fonts/font families-
-Verdana
-Courier New
-Trebuchet MS
-Lucidia Console
-Microsoft Sans Serif

If these fonts are already installed, you may need to reinstall the problem
applications.

Thank you for responding to my difficulties. I have tried using MS Word and
have written using each of the below fonts. They are all there, and all work
just fine. I was willing to live with the problem until I just tried reading
a ZDNet White Paper Membership Letter. The font is a small script font, and
I just cannot read it. I also clicked on the button at the top that opens
the same letter on the ZDnet web site. Same problem. Help, PLEASE!

Thanks, Frank Lembree

Frank, you might want to check that the system .FON files are all there
in the Fonts folder. These are often used in dialog boxes and buttons,
etc. You need to turn on Show Hidden Files in order to see some of them.

These may not all be necessary, but this is what I have:

Courier (Courf.fon) *Not* to be confused with Courier Truetype font
Courier (Coure.fon)
Fixedsys (vgafix.fon)
Fixedsys (8514fix.fon)
Modern (Modern.fon)
MS Sans Serif (Sserife.fon) *Not* to be confused with the Truetype font
MS Serif (Serife.fon)
Roman (Roman.fon)
Script (Script.fon)
Small Fonts (Smallf.fon)
Small fonts (Smalle.fon)
Symbol (symbolf.fon)
Symbol (Symbole.fon)
System (8514sys.fon)
Terminal (850) (vga850.fon)
Terminal (US) (vgaoem_0.fon)
Terminal (8514oem.fon)

You could also try this, to see if it puts things back to normal. It
worked for me when text in dialog boxes in one of my programs suddenly
became very large and bold.

Right-click on Desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced. Change DPI
setting to Large (120 DPI). Have your XP disk ready when asked for it,
and reboot when told. (Don't worry if things look terrible! It's only
temporary :-)

Now go back in and do the whole thing again, changing the DPI setting
back this time to 96, popping in the XP disk when asked, and rebooting
(important).

Does this make any difference in the look of the problem apps?

Can you provide a link to the ZDNet White Paper Membership Letter
so that we can examine the font situation with our own system and browser?
