Folders with MPG files won't open properly or close immediately???

When I have a folder with a mpg file in it and go to open it, the folder
opens momentarily and then immediately closes. Similarly if I do a search
for an mpg file using the usual windows xp search method, as soon as the
search locates the first mpg file, it stops and closes down the search. Has
anyone else seen this problem? Any idea what is happening and how to fix it?
 
I finally found a solution which seems to work so I will post it for others
to see and also to see if anyone has a problem with it.

1) open a command window (Start >run, type in 'cmd' hit enter)
2) Remove the media preview dll from the registry by typing and hit enter:
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

That seems to do the trick

If you later want to return the media preview back to the registry simply
type and hit enter: regsvr32 shmedia.dll
