Folders open in new window

I have set folder options to open in same window, but they still open in a
new window very one I open.

this started after I loaded some software to check out and removed it.
since then every folder opens in a new window no matter how many times i
click ok to open in same window under folder options.

Is there a area in the keys that I can look at to correct this?

any help is certainly appreciated.

running windows xp pro / hp pavilion dv8000

I'd like to say thank you too. None of the other workarounds worked for me.
This one makes open in the same window and loses the tree/search part of the
window problems I was having dissapear.

Such an annoying problem.
