Folders keep changing their default picture

I installed a new HP PHotosmart printer on 12/9 and all was OK. I did not go
into My Documents>My Pictures till 12/13. When I was copying some pics to a
new folder I noticed that my original pics that depicted what was inside the
folder had changed to the one I used on just one certain folder. If I went
in to customize to see what was going on, that same pic is on the folder
inside customize. What is going on??? Could the new printer and or software
with it be creating this problem?? Also when I want into My Music it changed
the note icon to a picture icon, yes, the same one again. Any ideas???

I thought I might make it clearer what happens. open>My Pictures >open
Folder inside (I have a folder that says Alizas Photos with my pic on it.) I
have numerous other folders with other family names with identifying pic on
it. On some I went & chose just one particular photo to identify the folder
rather than showing the four little ones (by the way what folder choice gives
you the four little pics?? Documents, Photo Album or Pictures? If you decide
you don't like the one pic and want four back, which type folder should I
choose in customize? when you right click the folder >customize you can
change the folder type, assign a pic etc. WELL, fooling around I changed
some to Pictues, some to Photo Albums etc. But that was a long time ago.
Now, I went in and opened a folder & copied some pics to another folder.
When I closed the original folder it had changed its picture to the same one
I use on Alizas Pics. It is driving me crazy.............. Also, I went &
opened My Music, and yes it switched to a different picture that was on
another persons picture folder. I got rid of that by moving My Music to
desktop and moving back to My Documents. so far it has held. Could
installing a new printer & software do this crazy type thing? I can't think
of anything else I did. I truly, truly appreciate any help. My Dell
computer is only 6 months old but I am seriously thinking of having the drive
formatted and XP reinstalled, do you think the OS could be corrupted or
something. By the way I do not use my desktop for the Internet. I am not
connected. I have XP SP2 with all updates up to 6/08 when DELL installed XP
and sent me it. I only use for photo & video editing. THANK YOU ALL

you need to get all the new updates. even if not connected to the internet
you should have them
