Hello,

I have some folders on my desktop. They have different view properties:
icons or a list with filenames.

I changed the list view of a folder in a icon view and save the setting.
When I open the folder the view setting is a list again. This is not
happening with 1 folder but with all when I changed the view setting.

How can I make the view setting permanent??

gr. Carley

First thing to check for your issue is to check a Folders Option.
Open Explorer, Click Tools, Folder Options, View (TAB).
Scroll down the list and locate "Remember each Folder's View
Settings". Check/Tic that option, Apply and OK. By default XP
SP2 will "Remember" 5000 folder views. It's possible to increase
that value, if needed. Try/Verify the setting above, Log out and
back into your profile and post if the issue is still present.

Thank you for your quick reply! I have followed your instructions. The
settings are already as you suggest. I think I have to increase the value
of the folder views to remember. How can I do that??

gr, Carley.

Click Start, Run (Type) Regedit [Press Enter]
Navigate to the following key heading:

HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
in the Right pane you should see a key named BagMRU Size.
It's value will be displayed in both Hexadecimal/Decimal values.
The number inside the parenthesis is the decimal. Right Click
the Key name and from the Context Menu Left click Properties.
Toggle the Base radio button to "Decimal" and then change the
Value Data field to a higher number (10000), OK.

Then repeat this process for the ShellNoRoam Key heading
located just below where you made the initial edit.

The two key values do not have to be the same, but it's easier
to make them identical values.
