Folder size in status bar at bottom of Explorer

In XP, the size of any folder you selected in the
left pane was shown in the Status Bar at the bottom.

Can't seem to get Vista to do this. I know about
the pop-up that does the same thing, but this only
works when the folder is displayed in the right pane.
There's an empty space for it in the Status Bar, but
nothing ever gets displayed there.

Also another annoyance: strategy I used in XP to
make Details the default for all folders system-wide
regardless of content doesn't stick...is it the BAGS
thing again? I would have thought MS would fix
this in Vista.

Vista Home Prem.

You are not gonna get the same behaviour in XP unfortunately, if its in a
directory, you just have to select all files and the 'Details Pane' will
show the amount of space used by the files in the folder.

But the "space" for it is there. Did someone on
the design team just forget?

How about the system-wide Details view for all
folders issue?
