File/folder sizes on Status bar - where'd they go?

I have Vista Premium that came installed on a new notebook.
Quick question:
Is there any way to get the TOTAL file size in any folder when viewing it in
Windows Explorer to show up on the status bar, as it used to do in XP???

Thanks a lot!

Ctrl-A will select all objects and show you the total.

I'd try this...
- un-hide the legacy menu bar in Vista Windows Explorer
- go View menu, click Status bar
- you should see the "old XP" status bar appear
- hopefully this will do what you want
- re-hide the legacy menu bar if you like (as I do)
- the legacy Status bar should remain present

Saws are too hard to use.
Be easier to use!

I think what he means is that if you select a folder it will say that an item
is selected but not the size of the folder's contents. That's what I would
expect. The status bar does show size for files so why not folders?

Is there a way to enable this?

I don't remember being able to view folder file sizes in the status bar in
Explorer XP. I have always gotten my folder size information from the
little tooltip popup that appears when you hover over the folder icon. That
is still true for Vista. Would love to know if I was missing something like
that in XP all those years! Actually, it always bugged me (still does) that
folder sizes do not show up in the Size column in Explorer (files do but
Folders do not, at least they never have for me).

It's quite a miss that:

1. folder sizes are **not** shown in the "size" column in Explorer. What
makes this even more odd is that folder size IS shown for folders in the
recyble bin. Folder size should be visible in all Explorer windows!

2. the total size of multiply selected folders is not shown in details pane.
Kind of makes the details pane useless.
