Folder Settings Memory Issue Calls Again!

S

SKS

This must have been posted and discussed a million times or so, so far. And,
earlier, I have not had any problem with this issue myself. I have TweakUI
installed and set to remember 8000 settings, "Remember each folder's view
settings" checked and View->"Apply to All Folders" duly applied. Also the
following keys were deleted (exported for back-up first):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

Everything was working perfectly. Till yesterday late afternoon.

From then, I cannot simply cannot get folders to remember settings (Auto
Arrange, Icon View, Sort by Type...). Also, the TweakUI settings appear to
have been reset to those that show when the utility is run for the very
first time.

No software/hardware changes have been installed on this WinXP Pro (SP2) PC
except for regular MS Updates. The MS WMF Exploit HotFix was applied *after*
the change was noticed, yesterday.

AdAware, SpyBot, TrendMicro SysClean found nothing. SFC /scannow and CHKDSK
/F did not change anything.

Yet, something occurred that seems to have caused a subtle change.

Any insight would be much appreciated. I cannot get rid of a nagging feeling
that it is something obvious but which escapes my middle-aged subdural
neurons' data-processing capabilities.

Regards and thanks.

Try a system restore to a date just before the change occurred.

Hi Rock,

Thanks for the suggestion. It does seem to be the logical way to go. I have
System restore turned off on this machine, but do have my last Ghost Image
(on 2nd HDD) created about a month ago.......

I realize that I will still not know what caused the errant behavior,
though!

Regards and thanks again.

Yeah a month old backup does present some problems. A lot will have
been lost. I thought if you had SR active going back on day, if it
worked, might be an easy fix. I don't know what caused it to happen.
You did apply the update, though so that's a possibility. I have
installed it on several machines so far without issue, as have many
others who post to this group. That doesn't prove it didn't cause your
problem. It's just hard to say.
