Folder settings keep getting reset.

First off, I have "remember each folder's view settings"
checked. For example, I have a folder with pictures, and
I've set it for thumbnail view, and they are arranged by
Modified (XP's closest "date" arrangement). After I set
those two parameters, I close the folder, then immediately
open it again, and suddenly it's set to icons, and
arranged by name. Of course, this is when the folder is
customized for documents. When customized for pictures,
the thumbnail view remains, it switches the arrangement
again, but strangest of all, completely seperate folders
(particularly one containing word documents) are now
customized for pictures and in the inappropriate thumbnail
view. I have to reset all the view parameters every time I
open these folders! And I have "remember each folder's
view settings" checked! Is there any way to get explorer
to do what it's told and keep each folder's settings
unchanged?
