Folder Redirection - Works with 2000 pro but not XP pro

Hi all,

Folder redirection issues have been discussed plenty of times and here
it goes once more.

Have a small network with mixed 2000 and XP pro clients. All server
are 2000 servers. Folder redirection is used to redirect My Documents
and Desktop folders.

It works great on 2000 professional machines but when the same users
log on from an XP pro machine, it doesn't work.

A never logged on from account (i.e. a new account) works fine when
logged on a Windows 2000 machine.

A never loggen on from account does not work when logged on from a
Windows XP pro machine even after three (or more) consecutive
attempts. Logging on using the same account from a Windows 2000 pro
machine works great.

All Windows 2000 systems (server and pro) are SP4 and all XP machines
are SP1.

The fdeply.log from a windows xp system is as follows:

------

--------

The log doesn't tell much (Failed to perform redirection.....) I can
see that it failed because it didn't happen. Want to know why it
failed.

Documents and Settings folder permissions on the XP and 2000 machines
are identical. Root permissions are correct too.

\\hq\data\user is a DFS link. I don't have any offline folders in use.
Besides if I use the \\servername\usershare\%username%\My documents as
the destination path it still doesn't work on XP. Still works great on
2000 pro.

No updated ADM files have been installed on the servers. Another
observation is that the Group Policy Editor running from an XP machine
on which Windows 2003 Adminpak has been installed does not show the
folder redirection container in the GPO object.

What am I overlooking?

Thanks,

Shahid

Figured it out. XP had offline files enabled. Apparently all
redirected folders are automatically setup for sync. Just toggling
offline files fixed it. In my setup I disabled offline files
altogether because all my systems are desktop machines and I am using
DFS.

Thanks,

Shahid
