Folder Problems

Can anyone help??
Following a fairly disasterous system meltdown and replacement hard drive I
am having problems with XP. I can create new folders (in My Documents or on
the desktop) but it will not let me re-name them or delete them. I've never
come across this problem before and wondered if anyone else could suggest a
remedy as its REALLY annoying. I've got XP Home installed on a Dell Laptop
with SP2 and all recommended updates. This was never a problem on the
original installation which also had SP2 and all updates. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kevin
Yes, I am still setting the machine back up and reinstalling software so no
other user set up yet. I found someone on the Dell website forums who had a
similar problem in 2003 (not very encouraging it still can happen 2yrs
later!) and she was advised to check a couple of registry entries. I found
that I had these same registry entries missing but adding them has made no
difference. I have a horrible feeling that now I have spent 4 days
reinstalling everything I am going to have to re-format the drive and do a
complete clean install of XP again! A complete nightmare!!
