Folder Permissions vs Delegate Access

I do not understand the difference between the following methods for granting
someone access to my Calendar:
a) Calendar > Share My Calendar > Permissions tab
b) Tools > Options > Delegates

When would I use one method over the other?

b) has more options, e.g "Delegate can see my private items". When you set
somebody as a delegate he is also granted the Delegate right in the Active
Directory.

On the other had using a) you are more flexible when defining access rights
and you can define it on any folder, not only on default ones.

Use the method which is more convenient depending what exactly you want to do.
