I don't know why but every time I boot my PC the same folder opens on my
desktop (my Ad-Aware folder). It'a not in my Start-up list of programs so I
don't know why this is happening. Can anyone advise how to stop it? Cheers.

go to start menu and then run

type in "msconfig"

go to start up tab and remove the program from starting
with windows. Things do not have to be in the start up
folder to run automatically. the startup folder was
desingned to load things once windows already booted.
MSCONFIG gives you the option of removing this from the
autoexec utility of windows itself

Thanks but I can't see the command which opens this folder (and I checked
carefully). Any other ideas?

Cheers.

Bobby,

This usually occurs because an entry in the Registry is trying to load
something from this folder, or one its subfolders, and the entry has spaces
in the path or file name, and it isn't enclosed in quotes. See
www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Startup Programs Tracker. This small
utility scans your system for startup programs and running processes. It
also allows you to create a log file that can be copied and pasted into a
newsgroup post. The contents of the program window are also copied to the
Windows Clipboard, automatically.

Examine the log file and look for any entry that loads from the Registry,
and has spaces in the path or file name, and is not enclosed in quotes.
Once found, note the portion of the Registry that its loading from, and
click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for
Local Machine items and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for
Current User items.

Locate the problem entry and double click it, and put a quote before and
after.
