"Open With" dialog

How can I remove a program name in the Recommended Programs list in the
"Open With" dialog? It'a a duplicate of one just below it in the list and
results in a failure of the program to open and the Microsoft message,
"WordPerfect® 9 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." The duplicated name below the one causing failure,
opens the document properly.

I tried removing the application and associated file type extension in the
Folder Options dialog, but it had no effect,

I would really like that bad duplicate listing out of there.

I clicked on openwithclear.zip, saved it to disk. I then clicked on it and
it's .exe file appeared. I was unable to open the .exe file though.

Instead I got a "Clear Open With Lists" dialog with a list of extensions to
clear.

I tried everything I could think of in regedit:
In OpenWithList under the .wpd file extension, I deleted the "default" name
whose data value was "value not set." I also deleted the name "a" whose data
value was Wpwin9.exe. The file type for these is "REG_SZ," for whatever it's
worth. I also tried deleting the entire OpenWithList folder.

But I still have 2 iterations of Wpwin9.exe in the Recommended Programs in
the Open With dialog. The first one remains corrupted, and the second one
works properly.

I'm starting to think it's there to stay. Very frustrating.

If you have any additional ideas, I'm all ears. Thank you very much for
your help so far.

I think best option will be uninstall the exsisting WordPerfet and go
for a fresh clean installation. This will help to remove the invalid
entries. But before doing that back up your important files.
If that doesn't help then post in WordPerfect newsgroup. In the following
link you will get list of WordPerfect newsgroups.

Depends and in your case, it should be easily recognized. Check your File
Types via Folder Options and the registry.

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\OpenWithList
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Hi

Earlier in the thread the OP used the word "open" with regard to an exe
file! Normally you would double click ( left button ) the file to run
the application.

Do you possibly have 2 entries that refer to Word Perfect under this reg key?

"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications"

If so, one may be faulty.
