Folder Mgmt

This may be a bit off topic, and if so, I would appreciate referral to a
better newsgroup:

I am thrilled that Windows gives me an opportunity to annotate files,
except for the fact that the names of the files usually tell me all I
need to know.

What I want is an ability to annotate folders, and I have been running
into dead ends. If I make a database of annotations, it will require a
lot of flipping to find what I want . . . any suggestions?

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated!

Don't understand what you mean by "annotate"? Do you want to
Index the files? You can create numerical file names with an index.

I guess this forum is anonymous enough: I have a large collection of
pix, which are in folders by model's name. With more than 1000 folders,
sometimes the name alone is meaningless, so I need 3 to 5 words to
describe the subject's looks

Why not just name the folders and organize them in a meaningful way?

or whatever makes sense to you.

but I think it would be more meaningful to have the folder say
Suzie (looks like Lauren Bacall)
file1.jpg
file2.jpg

if this is impossible, I will just have to export the directory and make
up an excel cheat sheet

No, of course it's not impossible. Just follow Rob's suggestion. You don't
need any special way to annotate. Simply name the folder in question
Suzie (looks like Lauren Bacall)

and give whatever names you want to the other folders.

You know, I had just that thought after I posted; you have to excuse the
fact that I am old enough that my first job in data processing was using
Mc Bee Keysort, and I am just getting used to the idea of file or folder
names being longer than 8.3! Thanks for the advice!!

In that case, you may be even older than I am. ;-) My first DP job was as
an IBM 1401 programmer, in 1962.

and I am just getting used to the idea of

Not a problem, and you're welcome. Glad to help.
