folder empty indicator

Anyone know if there is a way to do this?

If folder is empty then color of folder is red
If folder has documents in it, then it is blue

I'd like to be able to tell if a folder has something in it without
opening it or using my mouse in any way. Any thoughts?

Maybe but that is definitely a third-part app. It involves a hook into the shell. Notoriously problamatic those things.
