Folder Automatically Opens After Login

I have been using WinXP SP2 since a long time but of late, I find that
whenever I log into WinXP, a directory opens up automatically. How do
I prevent this directory from opening up automatically when I login?

Please note that I have not added any schedule in "Schedule Task".

Thanks,

Ron

Check the Startup folder on the All Programs menu. If there is a folder in
there, it can be deleted safely.

You forgot to tell us what directory is opening. There are various fixes
depending on which one it is, so take a look here and see if any of this
is applicable to your situation:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dellfolder.htm - Dell folder opens when
logging on to Windows (the concept of this one can work even if you
don't have a Dell)

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm - My Documents Folder
Opens Upon Boot (for C:\) line:255;right

No, Saruman, there aren't any folders in the Startup folder. In fact,
the Startup folder is empty.

Malke, the directory that opens isn't a system directory. Neither does
it have any system files. It's a directory named "MOBILE" which
resides in the K; drive (WinXP is installed in the D: drive). I had
created this directory couple of weeks back. It contains various
directories & files related to my mobile phone - nothing else other
than that. It's not concerned with Dell, My Documents, system32 as
well.

Any other ideas, friends?

Thanks,

Ron

When you installed the mobile phone, it attempted to install a program
that would run from Startup. The entry was damaged, so all you get is
the folder.

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,
type the name of the folder into the search pane. Click "Find Next",
and when located, delete the "Run" entry that includes the folder.
Press F3 to continue the search.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you
remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported
to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create
a restore point before editing the registry too.

I doubt if that could be the reason, Joe. This is because I installed
the mobile phone & programs related to it almost 2 months back but
this problem crept up just about 2 weeks back. Moreover, the folder
which is opening up automatically after I log into WinXP - it didn't
exhibit this behavior immediately after I created it. It happened
about 10 days after I created the directory.

Anyway I unearthed a much simpler way to stop that folder from opening
up automatically. Since the folder doesn't have any system files or
mobile phone related files/drivers, I just changed its name! Now that
folder no longer opens up automatically after I log into WinXP.

Thanks,

Ron

I'm glad you got it worked out. As long as no other Dell utility
recreates the folder, you shouldn't be bothered again.
