Folder Assistant doesn't work when part of a Distribution List?

I have an Exchange 2003 server, running on a Windows 2003 member server in a
Windows 2000 domain. We are using Outlook 2003.

We created a Public Folder for messages, and using the Folder Assistant
created a rule that replies to the sender of any message with a template.
This rule works just fine whenever anyone inside or outside of the
organization sends a message directly to the Public Folder. However, when we
make the Public Folder a member of a group, and send a message to the group,
the message is delivered correctly, but the reply template is never sent.

Is there something wrong with this configuration? Is there something I can
check? Has anyone ever seen this behavior?

Email to group --> Group receive email(public folder part of group) -->
Public Folder reply to group with template --> Email to Group. Exchange will
not allow this as this would go on forever.

Alright, so the Public Folder is replying to the group - how do I get around
this? I had it working when this was Exchange 5.5

Why do you want to make that Public folder part of a group? what are you
trying to achive by doing this?

Basically, we have several departments that people can e-mail to from links
on the webpage. Right now, the links are set up as groups so that any e-mail
sent to that group will be delivered to both the sales person in charge of
that department, as well as a Public Folder to be reviewed and managed by
upper management. We have several different departments, but only one Public
Folder, so that Public Folder is a member of each of the groups. We would
like anyone sending a message to one of the groups to get a response from us
saying that their message has been received, and that someone will be
following up with them shortly.

Instead of linking your webpage to your groups link it to your public folder
since it is mail enabled (once your rule fires the person will be notified).
Next use Exchange System Manager right click on your public folder,
properties, exchange general, delivery options, forward to and add the group
you want to receive a copy of the message that was sent to the public
folder(don't forget to click on the deliver message to both...). I am not
sure why you say you only have one public folder you should be able to
create a folder for each of the department and implement the same process
for each one.

Hope this helps.

Well, we want to have a single Public Folder for all of the groups. You're
saying, to create a Public Folder for each group, have that as who the
message gets sent to initially, have that initial PF reply, then forward any
mail to a group that contains the salesperson, as well as a second Public
Folder?

Well if you want to use only a single Public folder that is your business,
all I gave you is a possible solution to your problem.

OK, thank you.
