I do also - I have two hard drives - XP was sluggish on the old one, so
I installed XP on the new one and am trying to recover files from the
old drive. Most can be read with no problem, but my personal folder
under D&S won't open, and a couple of spreadsheet files won't either.
Is there a way around this?

Yes, probably. You need to

1) login as an an administrator,
2) then right click the folder and select properties
3) select the security tab,
4) Click the advanced button.
5) Click the owner tab and set the administrator account to be the
owner
6) **check the replace owner on subcontainers and objects box**
7) Click apply.

8) Click OK, and exit all the way out.
9) Right click the folder again and select properties, then the
security tab.
10) In the folder's properties security tab add the administraor
account **and give it full control permissions**. Don't exit.
11) Click the Advanced button again and check the Replace permissions
on child objects... box
12) Click Apply then OK the warning.
13) You should then be able to do anything you like with those folders
and files.

If that fails, make a detailed note of what happens including any
error messages and the step that failed and post them here.

Cheers,

Cliff
