floppy drive

after opening a floppy disk directory I cannot change
disks. even after closing and re-opening my computer it
still displays the directory of the first disk inserted!
does it even with the disk removed!
How can I get it to realise the disk has been changed?

Now, *this* is showing my age!

In the 'old' DOS days, this issue would come up often on computers. The
issue is referred to as 'change line'.

I tried the command in the config.sys file with no efect
Probably because windows xp loads it's own driver.
If I could find a way to make it use the on board driver
it might solve the problem.
