Disk manufactors say
1MB = 1.000.000 Bytes
1KB = 1.000 Bytes
but ITs say 1MB = 1048576 Bytes and 1KB = 1024 Bytes (2^10)

so 1.44MB disk = 1440000 Bytes / 1024 = 1406,25KB /1024 = 1,37... MB

so 1.38MB is normal for a floppy

Check your BIOS settings for your motherboard. You can set a floppy to
numerous settings. 1.38 in one of them or choose 1.44.
