Floppy drive access

Hi
Recently, for no particular reason, i seem to have lost
access to my floppy and CD drive. I am the only account
holder (guest account is turned off) on my home puter,
yet it tells me that I need the administrator to allow me
access to these drives. Having read notes here about
logging on to the administrator account, i attemtped to
do that (ctrl alt del x 2). It wouldnt allow me access,
stating that it was 'due to account restrictions'. I've
looked at the microsoft site to try and find the answer,
but i'm a very basic user, and most of the terminology is
lost on me. I bought the computer new, have Windows XP,
office 2000 and Norton Security Proffesional installed
(which thinks i AM the administrator). I'm stumped. Can
anyone please help?

well it almost sounds like your user account is setup as
a "Power user", which is like an administrator however you
cannot make system wide changes.
You can varify this by going into Control Panel, If you
see User Accounts and Administrator Tools than the current
Profile which you are under is the Administrator.

Thanks. I had a look in Control Panel. There is only User
Accounts, not Administrator Tools. In User accounts,
there is mine (which says i AM the administrator) and the
guest accounts (which is still off). I still cant access
the drives, it states "A:\ (and D) is not accessible.
Incorrect function".
Is there anything else you can suggest?
thanks
