Floppy Disk problems

Guest

I have never tried to use a floppy (3 1/2")on my HP Pavillion 510 before
today. I get prompted to format, then I am told that the disks (I tried them
all) can't be formatted. As a new user do I need to set up something? When I
troubleshoot my A: drive it says all is well. Please help if you can and
Thanks in advance.

How many disks did you try?

Get a known brand new floppy disk and try it.

There is definitely an issue documented with floppies & XP, but AFAIK, no
easy fix to date.
This is due to MS for some reason dropping three-mode floppy drivers from XP
& normally it gives error messages such as ""Floppy Disk is Not Accessible,
Not
Formatted, or Not Recognized by Windows".

Try formatting a floppy on a non-XP PC, copying anything to the floppy, then
see if XP will recognise & read it.
