Floating Graphic alignment

I'm new to Word 2007, so please forgive an elementary question. I a
unable to precisely place a graphic - it always snaps to what appear
to be a default position. The grid is turned off. The snap to Grid o
Other objects is turned off. No text is entered. Text wrapping is "i
front of text." I've tried with/without the drawing canvas. I
appears that only default alignment positions are allowed - I don'
want a general Top or Middle, etc alignment, just want to place th
graphic exactly where I need it.

Thanks for any help

Pressing Alt will override any grid or "snap" that may still be in effect,
but you can also define a precise position for a graphic using Layout |
Advanced. In addition to the Top, Bottom, etc., you can specify distances
relative to the page, margin, paragraph, etc.
