when my computer shuts down the monitor stays on different colours come on
screen and the on-off button will not switch of the monitor,any ideas

i could not get hold of dell support they dont work weekends, i phoned
telewest support now(virgin media) they did not have a clue after charging a
£1 a minute for the call thats why i asked for help pete

Is this by chance an older CRT Monitor?
Some had a power switch that stuck in the on position. The multicolor
problem can be a number of things.
A more detailed description of how the "different colors" are displayed on
the screen might help.
(And if the display is a CRT or LCD!)

hi chuck the monitor is a lcd flat screen only 6 months old when the computer
shuts down the on/off button stays green,then the screen changes to green
then red then yellow then blue then white and it continues like this the only
way i can turn the monitor off is by unplugging it from the wall. also when i
am using the computer i can turn the screen off no problem, i would
appreciate any help chuck

Something to do with the screen not using/supporting the advanced power
management.
I have an Acer AL 1912 screen, and when I shutdown my PC, the screen goes
off into a sort of 'standby' mode (the LED/online glows yellow/orange like a
TV in standby mode sort of thing.

However, I'd check the APM options under the BIOS and in Windows/Display
settings.
