For some reason Flash Player quit working under IE. But is working fine under
Firefox. I am running XP Home with all current fixes applied. When I bring up
IE and bring up the Yahoo home page and select play video I get a message
that Flash Player is not installed. I run the suggested program to removethe
program from the PC. When I run the install program I receive a message
Installation failed or was cancelled. I have tried every thing I read but
nothing works.
Please HELP.

Thanks,
Rick

IE, Tools menu, "Manage Add-ons", "Enable or disable addons", see 'status"
column, "Disabled"?

This works. It resolved the problem. I found it on-line after fighting this
problem for four days.

I am not an expert, but this is what I found. If your computer is a little
older, you may have Macromedia entries in your Registry. That company used to
do Flash. Those entries think that your new download is an inferior version
and won't allow it. This is what I did, your mileage may vary, and you assume
the risk:
1. Set a new Restore Point and back up your Registry.
2. Run the official Flash uninstaller a couple of times. Check the folder to
verify deletions. Reboot.
3. Run Dial-a-fix. PM me for details. Reboot.
4. Open Registry and search for Macromedia entries that relate to Flash and
delete them. Reboot.
5. Run CCleaner or Norton WinDoctor. Reboot.
6. Do these things again if you want to see if everything's clean.
7. Run the flash installer. I recommend the standalone installer. You can
save it to your desktop and work offline.
8. Don't waste several days scouring Google for answers like I did.

here is the solution to this..
1. download the flash uninstaller from [L=Here]http://
download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/
uninstall_flash_player.exe[/L]

2. open regedit.exe (watch out.. you are now treading in sensitive
territory)
3. In HKLM/Software delete the Macromedia Key
4. In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia remove the Flash Key of
you already have shockwave installed.

Now install the flash player... it should work

Dr. Win!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

I've been trying for *three weeks* to install Flash on IE 6 and IE 7 without
success. Not only that, but after following Adobe's suggestions to reset user
permissions in the registry I amost trashed my system and may still require a
complete install of Windows XP - something that is worse than 3 root canals
one after the other.

In any case, I only deleted the Flash Player subkeys under the Macromedia
keys you mentioned because I also have Dreamweaver and other Macromedia
software on the system and deleting the whole Macromedia keys would probably
damage the other software installations.

So I run the uninstall utility you linked to, then deleted these two keys
(only the Flash Player subkeys of those keys actually), then downloaded the
Install_Flash_Player_9_ActiveX.zip from Adobe's download center, unzipped and
run it, then started IE7 and went to the Adobe Flash Player installation site
and it finally installed!

Thank you again! You saved some lengthy and very time consuming flash
related work that I had done - not that I use IE for the web, I don't need
the additional torture of using it for surfing, but a number of other
applications use its flash plugin engine for their own use and none of those
worked either but now everything is working as it should.

Thank you!
