Flash Drives ALL Readonly?

Got a little problem,

On one of my computers my flash drives all appear as ready only!

Anyone got any idea.

I first noticed it on a flash drive that had the option of "switching it on"
(a hardware switch), but this wasn't on.

I've since tried other flash drives, including a few other people's but they
are all appearing as read only. Which is fine most of the time, but I like to
run Thunderbird from my flash drive, so I can take my pop3/imap client with
me.

If anyone has any suggestion how I've done this, then please let me know.

I did think about reformatting the flash drive, but if it's happening to
everyone's it must be a problem with my windows installation....?

Any help would be appreciated, as I'm having to use another computer on the
network to put my files onto them.

TIA, Dan Walters
