i've recently upgraded mobo, cpu and memory.
done a fresh install of win XP pro and SP1

when trying to use my card reader, i get the "removable
disk" on My Computer, but trying to access it yields
an "f: is not accessible... I/O error".
1. the thing worked fine previously
2. any other USB device works pefectly
3. there are no drivers to try and uninstall/reinstall as
this is a "generic device"

can anyone help?

You tried unplugging the card reader, waiting 10 seconds or so, then
plugging it back in?

yes, of course, and also restarting a few times.
same thing every time
