Flakey XP peer to peer network - MSHOME unavailiable - now it is! but cannot access the Internet

Dear group,

please could anyone advise me on a particular problem as I've gone
completely mad trying to resolve a network issue, before I flatline my
computer.

All 3 computers run with XP prof, one computer stopped seeing the rest
of the network - every time I looked at the network neighbourhood the
computer could not see MSHOME. (It couldn't even be pinged with name or
IP - as the session timed out). It is a simple peer to peer network
that was working wonderfully well. Every time I attempted to look at it
MSHOME was unavailible and it instructed me to see the network
administrator. (It could still print though!)

I tried to repair the connection, and it would not allow it. Today
after the computer has sat there all day - it allowed this to happen
and the MSHOME is visable and all computers are happily sharing files
again. The networked computers all have the latest updates and security
patches and of course the versatile XP firewall. Avast 4.6

The issue of not being able to see the network computers today resolved
itself ( I have no Idea how it was fixed or whether or not the problem
will occur again). The issue now is that this computer cannot access
the internet. (Still!)

It connects with a hub through to a standalone with a braodband
connection - all the IP addressess have been statically assigned (as
there was no floppy drive to reinstall the network neighbourhood with
the created floppy from the network wizzard).

Many thanks for your anticipated responces.

Hi

IP conflict or wrong range - check check out if your are using static
addressing alternatively use DHCP from a router or similar on the network
